Jeopardy Game Information
Please go through the rules and play a round with your students prior to the competition.
No Heritage students are allowed to participate in the Jeopardy Game.
THE BASICS:
1. Each team is made of four students from each school, and each player has a buzzer (4 buzzers per team. The jeopardy machine has a digital read-out to determine which team and player “buzzes in”)
2. There are 6 categories of questions. Each category has a point value ranging from 100 to 500.
3. To determine which team goes first, the instructor will count out “1-2-3.” Each player presses down on the buzzer. Whichever team/player presses the buzzer the fastest will go first.
4. The team selects a category and point value.
5. The instructor will click the number on the power point slide to view the question.
6. The instructor will read the question (For example: China is located on this continent).
7. After the instructor is COMPLETELY finished reading will students have the opportunity to “buzz in.”
8. If a team “buzzes in” before the instructor is done reading they CANNOT answer the question and are disqualified for that round.
The instructor then resets the jeopardy machine and reads the question again.
9. Whichever player buzzes in first will have the opportunity to answer the question- only that particular player may answer the question- NOT the entire team.
10. The player MUST answer in a question form (For example: What is Asia? Who is Chairman Mao).
11. If a team gets the answer correct, they get the amount of points the question was worth (100, 200, 300, 400, or 500).
12. If the team gets the answer incorrect they lose the point value.
13. If a team gets a question wrong or does not answer in the correct form (What is Asia? Who is Chairman Mao?,) then other teams can buzz in and answer the question: Please count 1-2-3 then ask the other teams to buzz in.
14. Once the question is done, the instructor will click the home is at the bottom of each slide to go back to the first slide.
DAILY DOUBLE
1. When a team selects the question labeled “Daily Double,” the team must select a number of points they wish to wager (the team does not see the question)
2. The team must select a number of points they wish to wager before the question is read.
3. The team can only wager as many points as the have or as little a zero.
If a team has negative points the most they can wager is 500.
4. The question is then read and the players buzz-in.
5. Whichever player buzzes in first, ONLY that player can answer.
6. If the team player gets the “Daily Double” question INCORRECT, that team loses the amount of points they wagered and NO other teams can attempt to answer that question.
7. If team player get the question CORRECT, the team, receive the number of points they wagered.
FINAL JEOPARDY
1. Once all the questions have been asked, the instructor will right click the first slide and select next slide.
2. This will bring the instructor to a “Final Jeopardy” slide which will have a category.
3. The instructor will read the category and give EACH team the opportunity to write a point value they wish to wager on a piece of paper.
4. The teams can only wager as much as they have or as little as 0.
5. After all teams have written down a point value, the instructor will click on the category on the PowerPoint to bring up the question.
6. The instructor will read the questions and then give teams 30 seconds to write their response on the piece of paper, still in question form (for example: what is Asia?, who is chairman Mao?)
7. Once 30 seconds is up the instructors will ask each team to read their answer and point value they wagered.
8. If the team gets the question correct they will receive the point value they wagered, if they get it wrong they will lose that point value.
9. The instructor will then total all the teams’ points and whichever team has the highest will continue to the Competition Round.
